Welcome! My name is Sean Tobin. I am a Registered Social Worker and psychotherapist dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges. With over 20 years of experience in counseling, mental health advocacy, and psychological wellness, I offer a compassionate, evidence-based approach to support your journey toward healing and personal growth.

I hold a Masters of Social Work Degree (MSW) from Memorial University of Newfoundland (2005) in Advanced Clinical Practice as well as a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from St. Thomas University and a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) Degree in Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland.

I have had the privilege of listening to people’s stories across Canada. Originally from Newfoundland and Labrador, I have worked as a mental health clinician and manager from Newfoundland to British Columbia in diverse areas as community mental health, forensic psychiatry, early psychosis intervention, child protection, and private practice.

In my spare time, I’ve been a minor hockey referee, mentor, and coach for over 30 years holding numerous executive positions across Canada including with Hockey Canada and Hockey Eastern Ontario. Most recently, I was appointed as the Officiating Coaching Lead for Hockey Canada and serve as the officiating representative on the Hockey Canada Mental Health Working Group.

I founded Steady Harbour Counselling to make the counselling experience simpler and easier for people. I do this in several ways:

    • Direct Billing to Insurance Companies on behalf of clients- This eliminates the hassle and headaches clients face in having to complete insurance forms to get reimbursed for sessions.
    • Virtual Appointments for all Clients- This gives clients the benefit of attending a session from the comfort of their own home or any other safe space.
    • Evening Appointments- All clients will have the option of selecting evening appointments. For many people, this means not having to take time off work to attend an appointment.
    • Free Consultation- Counselling is all about right-fit. I offer perspective clients a free 30 minute consultation discussion to discuss what services I can offer and whether the service is the right fit for you. No obligations.

Steady Harbour Counselling is an extension of my deep commitment to mental health and the belief that everyone deserves a safe, hassle-free, inclusive space for healing and growth. I started Steady Harbour Counselling to create a steady, reliable refuge—a place where clients can feel heard, valued, and empowered to navigate life’s complexities.

This practice represents both my professional journey and my dedication to providing a consistent, nurturing environment for everyone seeking guidance and mental wellness.

My Approach

My approach integrates a blend of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). I also provide Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) , and solution-focused strategies tailored to meet your unique needs. Whether you’re experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, workplace or sport performance issues, workplace stress, or personal challenges, I am here to help you develop practical tools to enhance your well-being.
